Boot camp style workout. On the River. Amazing way to watch the sun come up and start the day with sweat pouring over your rejuvenated soul. Some ramps, lots of steps, a little concrete, a little grass, all the fixens for beautifully scripted beatdown!

Best Parking is on Cherry Street. **Please be considerate when you park on the side streets, keep the Mumblechatter at a minimum out of respect for the residents.**

  1. Backblast: February 1st, 2024

AO: The Wall – Riverside Park – Perrysburg, OH

    PAX:
    Photon – Q
    Binford
    Crawdad
    Geppetto
    Guardian
    Hannibal
    Mile High
    Spaulding

    Workout: 8-Bit Boogaloo

    FNG’s: N/A

    Mission and Principles:
    F3: Fitness, Fellowship, Faith
Mission: To plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.
The core principles of F3 are that it is always:
    1. Free of charge
    2. Open to all men
    3. Held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold
    4. Led by men who participate in the workout in a rotating fashion, with no training or certification necessary. You versus you. Modify or stop an exercise if you need to. The most important thing is that nobody gets hurt.
    5. Ends with a Circle of Trust
Credo: Leave no man behind but leave no man where you find him

    Warm-up: In cadence

    Turnip (Potato) Pickers – 8
Sun Gods (Arm Circles) (4 is 1) – 8 and flapjack

    The “Thang”:

    8-Bit Ladder.
8 Rounds with a new exercise being added each round. First exercise was 8-bits (reps) and each new exercise added had its bit count increased by 8. Last round contained 8 exercises with bit counts from 8 to 64. PAX ran up and down half of the ramp in between rounds. For the first 8 songs played, PAX needed to guess the NES game that the song originated from using only the exercise names as hints. Penalty was 8 reps of everyone’s favorite 8-bit exercise; the Absolution. All exercises were 1-is-1.

    Round 1: 8 – Dr. Ws
    Round 2: 16 Surfer Get-ups + all Round 1 Exercises
Round 3: 24 Box Jumps + all Round 2 Exercises
Round 4: 32 Blades of Steels + all Round 3 Exercises
Round 5: 40 The Sketches + all Round 4 Exercises
    Round 6: 48 Cheerleaders + all Round 5 Exercises
Round 7: 56 Super Duper Coolers + all Round 6 Exercises
Round 8: 64 Fairy Jacks + all Round 7 Exercises

Dr. Ws were omitted after round 2 due to time and all other exercises had their rep counts reduced by 8. Further, after about round 4 all exercises were reduced to rep-counts of 8 and we still didn’t even finish round 7. 1 set of absolutions was performed at the start of song #8.

    Ended with:
    Count-O-Rama: 8
    Name-O-Rama

    The Six – Binford

    Ball of Man

Spreadsheets from the Gloom: 34F and dry. The wall blocked the light wind. This BD was the definition of good idea, poor execution. Too many new exercises to not be done in cadence. In future will start each round in cadence with new exercise and plank for/pickup the 6 at round’s end. Rep counts were also way too high given the rep duration for several of the exercises. Keeping the rep count to 8 for each exercise and simply adding a new exercise every round would probably suffice.

A variety of 8-bit tunes from the NES were played and the complexity of the tunes ramped up with the intensity of the workout. Every exercise of the BD acted as a clue to the name of the NES game that corresponded to each song played. Given the age range of the Black Swamp PAX, I expected more knowledge of the titles. Fortunately Spaulding’s memory was able to save the PAX from about 256 collective absolutions. Truncated playlist with exercise reference for those interested:

Super Mario Bros. 1 “Theme and Overworld” – Box Jumps
The Legend of Zelda “Overworld” – Fairy Jacks
Super Mario Bros. 2 “Overworld” – Turnip Pickers
Megaman 2 “Metal Man Theme” – Blades of Steel
Super Mario Bros. 3 “Overworld” – Box Jumps
Megaman 3 “Snake Man Theme” – Dr. Ws
Tecmo Super Bowl “Opening Theme” – Cheerleaders
Treasure Master “Title Theme” – Super Duper Coolers
Pictionary “Title Theme” – The Sketch
Silver Surfer “Title Theme” – Surfer Get-ups
Solstice “Title Theme” – Sun Gods

It was a pleasure to lead. Apologies by the poor execution and for those who despise 8-bit chip-tunes.
