    QiC: Woodstock

We moseyed to the hill and played musical cones. Lots of running & burpees, some physical contact, lots of laughs and plenty of work. Really, really annoying playlist.

    Apollo was the 6.

YHC closed with this in lieu of a prayer:

    Men. F3 Men.

We hear so much about toxic masculinity and how men are oppressors and all these “bad” traits that are associated with being a man:
    Aggressiveness.
    Competitiveness.
    Anger.
    Assertiveness.
    Ego/sense of self worth.
    Candor.

The list goes on and on. To me these are traits of men so ingrained in us that they are part of what makes us men, and to be told they are bad or “toxic” is very confusing and psychologically damaging. Its no wonder suicide is a leading cause of death among males, we are constantly bombarded with these messages that our very nature is “what’s wrong” with society and causes all the problems. I am not here to disagree that unchecked aggression, anger, competition, and ego dont cause issues – fighting, violence, etc. But thats from men not raised by men. There is a quote I love by Jordan Peterson: “A harmless man is not a good man. A good man is a very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control.” This gets to the root of men.

This is what F3 brings back for me. I look around the circle and I see fire in eyes and passion in speech that isn’t always present in men out of the gloom. I see friendly competitiveness. I see aggressiveness put to use. I see Anger burned out in sweat. I see Assertiveness manifested in giving direction and leading. I see men speaking candidly to each other like brothers. And I see ego’s checked and self worth elevated. I see healing. I feel whole.

Thats why I keep coming back to F3, why I love F3 and am passionate about F3. It reminds us of who we are supposed to be and gives us the structure and platform to do it. It casts aside what society thinks it wants us to be.

Thank you Men for casting aside what society thinks and embracing what we are, cultivating it here and sharpening those voluntary controls. Here we can be dangerous, aggressive, assertive batflippers. Here we burn anger and ego to cinders with work and fellowship. Here we remember that the qualities that make us Men are not bad or toxic, they are critical to a functional society. The yin to womens yang. We are not designed to be passive and nurturing – we are designed to teach young testosterone fueled alpha predators control. You cannot be weak in will or arm to do that. We are designed to be protectors of those who cannot protect themselves – mind, body and spirit. You need to be sharp as a razor and capable of exceptional thought, decisiveness, and action in snap. We arent training for a tournament or a race or muscle beach, we are training for life. Thank you men for teaching me, I am humbled and honored to be in your presence each day and by the grace of God that will continue.
