What the ruck is a ruck? A hike with a weighted backpack (approx 30 lbs) while stopping along the brisk walk to do some invigorating exercise. Excellent 1st F (fitness) and 2nd F (fellowship). If an FNG (Friendly New Guy) is a bit timid to post for a workout the ruck is a great intro to the pax.

  1. 11/18 – Battlefield Ruck

    PAX:
    Swan
    Runt
    Rudy
    Buttercup

We had a great group of non-CSAUPers out early this morning for our standard ruck. Discussion was Highs/Lows of the week and prayer requests. We all agreed that November has gone way too fast.

    Ended with:
    Count-O-Rama: 5
    Name-O-Rama
    Announcements
    COT

    The Six – Swan

    Pax:
    Fat Amy
    Raven
    Casper
    Flo
    Echo
    Lonzo
    Footloose
    Slurpee
    Photon
    Meatloaf
    Drip
    Harry
    Mercy (q)
    Isosceles

The PAX loaded up 2 flags and 2 60s ( 1 260 or 2 60 yr olds or 2 60 pounds sanbags – only those who were there will know.)

We shed 8 pax and picked up 3 – Raven, Flo, Lonzo, Slurpees, Harry, Drip, Mercy and Photon did entire 6 hours. Fat Amy had to dip for an hour, and Iso had to leave 30 minutes early, but they were both there for the hardest part.

With the flags and 60s, we took the long way around Oak Openings, jumping on the brown Trail, hitting the Blue trail, then connecting to the Yellow Trail. Rucked roughly 4 ish miles in 75 minutes, switching sandbags frequently. When we got to the end point, we were met with the hard part from Iso.

Iso had screwed 3 2x4s together. we grabbed the make shift log, had a short amount of time to configure 8 rucks on the “log” and we rucked out. We passed plenty of people, including their dogs, who didn’t know what to think, as a group of men struggled to carry a “log” with unnecessary weight. I guess that is why they call it a CSAUP, but as Flo expounded upon, this event, and CSAUPs in general are not stupid or pointless, and carry a lot of reason behind them.

We trudged on the mile and half trail, encountering cinder blocks in the wild. Who knew they just appear like that? We added them to the load and carried on. Eventually, Lonzo played some Lettuce (?) then Taylor Swift.

As we entered the parking lot area, some of us were singing along. I’m sure others at the park only saw grown men carrying a crazy contraption, with weight, singing Taylor.

We set the log down, and proceeded to take a quick breather before heading over to a grassy area. We circled up and did a murph in cadence – 100 ruck rows, 200 merkins – circle merkins, 300 squats – same format as circle merkins, holding al gore in between reps.

Raven learned that 300 is a larger number than 200 during the squats.

We need more CSAUPs. That event kicked my butt, and I hope it kicked yours. And if you weren’t there, I hope you have FOMO.

In true CSAUP fashion the temperature dropped by half come Saturday morning, but that would never stop the men of F3 Black Swamp! After all pax navigated Mercy’s directions, who’s bad quality could only be topped by a Taylor Swift song, we were ready to go promptly(ish). Did some warmups consisting of: 7 count Motivators, 6 count Squativators by Fat Amy, 5 count Hand release Merkinators. Then things got a little chaotic as pax were told to dump their rucks and repack them in under 1 minute. Once bags were re-packed, including one pax who packed enough stuff for a GTE, rucks were held over head for a long 2 minutes. Finally we hit the yellow trail and enjoyed the views of Oak Openings for about 3 miles, rotating coupons down the line which Geppetto finally put into working order. Half way in we completed the D-Day WOD from GoRuck that included 77 of each of the following exercises: Ruck squats, Ruck Merkins, Ruck Deadlifts, Ruck Shoulder Presses.

Once back at the parking lot we decided to play a couple games. Teams were drafted by Team Lettuce with Photon as the captain and Team Taylor Swift with Mercy as the captain..

    Game 1: Minefield

All rucks were laid out in a disorganized fashion and two teams were formed. Each team had to proceed one by one while blindfolded and guided by voice only to the other side without hitting a bag or suffer penalties. While guiding their blinded teammate all other pax would perform an exercise of the blinded pax’s choosing. Two rounds were performed, and all limbs remained attached. Round one was walking and round two was bear crawling.

    Game 2: Rope pull

Round 1: While Gulliver set things up everyone followed Lonzo for a modified Murph. When things were set up each team had 1 60lb bag attached to a rope and lined up. One at a time pax carried the bag to the finish line, ran back to the start, pulled the bag to them, and then ran to the finish. While waiting all remaining pax would perform an exercise of the pullers choosing.

For round 2 pax were allowed to do a team pull to get the bag back faster. Geppetto found the hack for this and team Lettuce dominated.

We concluded the first half of the CSAUP with COR, NOR, and a message from Footloose describing his new role in F3 Black Swamp.
