It was only fitting that we played a little baseball on this Opening Day.
YHC created a diamond from chalk and at each of the bases I made large circles approximately 10' in diameter. All pax moseyed up a small hill about 30' up and away from the diamond and one pax tossed 1 bean bag and attempted to land it in a circle. If successful, he would turn over one of the 3 playing cards located in the circle. All pax would then perform that exercise and said card would be removed from play. Missing a circle with the bag resulted in 10 Absolutions (later modified to Freddie Mercuries since we missed the circles more than I assumed we would).

Playlist included all baseball themed songs including:
    Willie, Mickey, and The Duke

Workout: Wicked Wicket – F3 Broquet

    FNG’s: N/A

    Mission and Principles:
    F3: Fitness, Fellowship, Faith
Mission: To plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.
The core principles of F3 are that it is always:
    1. Free of charge
    2. Open to all men
    3. Held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold
    4. Led by men who participate in the workout in a rotating fashion, with no training or certification necessary. You versus you. Modify or stop an exercise if you need to. The most important thing is that nobody gets hurt.
    5. Ends with a Circle of Trust
Credo: Leave no man behind but leave no man where you find him

    Warm-up: In cadence

    SSH (2 is 1): 20
    Windmills (2 is 1): 10

    The “Thang”:

PAX participated in an F3 game of 9-wicket croquet. The course was set-up to scale, but with all distances in yards instead of feet, making a course of 100×50 yards. The rules were as follows:

Two teams. Each wicket: 1 team member is designated person to perform MOT while every other team member does the exercise. MOT person guesses/bids how many steps they want to shoot the ball. Teammates do that many reps of the exercise for that wicket. Opposing MOT person also does that number of reps of the exercise for that wicket. The rest of the opposing team also needs to perform that many steps of MOT along the sidelines. MOT person aims, is blind-folded, and moves the pre-determined number of steps. Travel through a wicket and the MOT/exercise for buy in changes. Opposing team performs 5 burpees each. If you hit an opponent’s ball during MOT, stop and take two bonus strokes. 1st bonus stroke moves your team the pre-determined number of steps and the opposing team 3X the pre-determined number of strokes. 2nd stroke functions like a normal stroke. If you hit the inside/outside of a wicket during the MOT, continue rest of steps. If you hit wicket directly, stop the MOT. Use flat baseball bases for ball place-markers.
    Wicket: MOT – Exercise
    0: Ape Hop – Hrrpees
1&2: Crawl Bear – Flying Squirrels
    3: Lunge Walk – Absolutions
4: Duck Walk – No Cheat Merkins
5: Crab Walk Forward – Bonnie Blairs
6&7: Bear Crawl – Crab Cakes
8&9: Bear Crawl – Crab Cakes
10: Crab Walk Reverse – Plank Jack Shoulder Taps
11: Duck Walk – No Cheat Merkins
12: Alligator Walk – Jungle Boys
13&14: Crawl Bear – Flying Squirrels

    Ball of Man

Spreadsheets from the Gloom: 48 and completely saturated. This was the textbook definition of good idea, poor execution. The positive takeaway from this would be…the blind MOT bidding. That was a great mechanic that could be used for a number of different beatdown elements/themes. Everything else was a miss as it seemed to be too complicated for its own good. There was too much down time between shots. A timer would be useful in the future to make it more of a lightning-style game. There should be no time to line up and pre-count your shots. Also need to re-think what the opposing team should do during the shots. I originally planned on the opposing team performing the MOT off the course, but it seemed there were too many people to do that in an orderly fashion. We also scrapped the idea of the teammates performing equal reps to the MOT steps due to a lack of order. Might be worth re-exploring that idea.

Playlist consisted of an eclectic mix of 19th Century classical bangers with a Victorian garden party vibe.

At the end of the day, I think this beatdown has a lot of promise with some tweaks. Perhaps the court could be more true to size instead of using yards in place of feet. Might allow the PAX to get through the entire course instead of just half. Would also allow us to move to the lit parking lot. Either way, we all got wet and we all had some laughs.
